From modest beginnings, cohesion policy has developed into one of Europe's flagship programmes. More than €50bn a year is available to help finance high-speed railways, vocational training or environmental projects on the ground. Open Days, the European week of regions and cities, has also grown rapidly over the past few years. The European parliament welcomes the initiative to open the European week of regions and cities again on our premises in Brussels.
